1990

  • KUTE was formed
  • Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Day

1991

  • Regular monthly pickup of newsprint at Lower City Centre parking lot
  • Became a Society (Provincial)
  • Depot set up at Don Chimko’s building on Forest Avenue

1992

  • Moved to basement of Giant Food Store
  • 1980 Ford cube van donated by Alcan
  • Small baler donated by Overwaitea Foods
  • $10,000 Environmental Partners Grant to purchase forklift

1993

  • Became a registered Charity

1994

  • Moved to present location on Railway Avenue
  • Office paper pickup program began

1995

  • Purchase of large Marathon baler
  • Telephone book recycling with BC Tel
  • Adopted Hubley family for waste reduction strategies

1996

  • Paint Depot began with BC Paint Care Association
  • First River Day Cleanup
  • New sign at Third Avenue from the District of Kitimat
  • Christmas Tree chipping with Kitimat-Stikine Regional District

1997

  • Composting project with summer student Gagan Leekha
  • Christmas Reuse tree at Alcan Community Office

1998

  • First Seed & Plant Exchange
  • KUTE received “Most Successful Clean-Up” award from the Outdoor Recreation Council of BC

1999

  • Seed & Plant Exchange with the Kitimat Community Garden Society
  • President Barbara Hall received 1999 Minister’s Environmental Award in the Individual Citizen category from the Minister of Environment, Lands & Parks
